About/Resume

Brief Bio:

I, Jessica M. Jacuinde (ha-Queen-de) am an illustrator, filmmaker and editor, writer, storyteller - I am an artist. My work is primary in dry and digital media that also has a narrative element to it. I grew up in the desert of California and have always loved telling stories whether it be through drawing, animation, or film. I describe myself as being creative, positive, and passionate about everything I do. This past June 2015 I graduated Summa Cum Laude from California State University, San Bernardino with my Bachelor of Arts in Art, with an emphasis in Studio Art, and minor in Film Studies. I received the Presidents Academics Excellence Scholarship, and later received Art Honors from the CSUSB Art Department. I co-curated and displayed work in a variety of shows on and off campus. Currently, I am working on other projects and will post updates on my blog.

Statement:

My art shares segments of stories that appear in a realistic style, but usually have a surreal element to them so that the viewers are in an imaginary world, one which seemingly could exist. Through the tones of high contrast, my works reveal a variety of intense emotions to my audience. Each piece acts as an illustration representative of a feeling, and a window into my mind. Because I present only a moment of the narrative, the art becomes an interactive piece, allowing the viewers to use their own imagination to think of what could have happened before and after.

I want to affect people’s minds, but not by telling them what to think; rather I want them to feel the emotion of my narrative and exercise their own imagination by interacting with the work. When people look at my artwork, I want them to feel as if they are there, in that moment, watching the story unfold, and to be able to feel the emotions that are being revealed by my subjects and situations. Although the situations may not be entirely true or seemingly possible the emotions behind them are real, and this is what I want my audience to understand.
